Ensure the ETOC app is installed and the embedded theme app extension is activated. Check that your article uses Shopify's blog sections and contains proper heading tags (H1-H6).

This is almost always due to an incorrect 'Article Wrapper' setting. While eToC v2.0 includes a smart auto-discovery engine, some custom themes require you to manually enter the content CSS selector in the Advanced Settings. Contact our support if you need help finding this!

Switching themes can change your site's HTML structure. v2.0 uses a new 'Theme-Aware Discovery' algorithm that automatically adapts to most theme changes, but you may occasionally need to refresh your 'Article Wrapper' setting.

This happens if you have empty heading tags in your article. You can remove the empty tags from your Shopify editor or enable the 'Hide Empty Headings' setting in the eToC dashboard for better SEO and TOC accuracy. Note: Enabling this setting will also hide any child (sub-headings) that belong to that empty parent.

If the Floated TOC doesn't fit your theme's layout or causes overlaps, we recommend choosing the 'Sliding Drawer' mode. It is highly mobile-friendly and ensures the TOC is always accessible without blocking your content. Even if you prefer a Floated TOC on desktop, you can still choose the Drawer for your mobile settings to ensure a perfect experience on all devices.
