Expert advice on SEO, exclusions, and design control

Maximize the value of Easy Table of Contents (eToC) with these expert tips for SEO, design control, and advanced exclusion rules.

🚀 Automatic SEO Schema (JSON-LD)

One of the most powerful features of eToC is the automatic generation of JSON-LD ItemList Schema.

What it does:

When search engines like Google crawl your page, they see a structured "map" of your content headings. This significantly increases the chance of your articles appearing with "Jump Links" directly in search results.

How to use it:

  • Enabled by Default: You don't need to do anything! eToC automatically builds this for every article.
  • Control: If you are using another specialized SEO app and want to disable this, you can toggle "Generate SEO Schema" OFF under Features in your dashboard settings.

🙈 Ignoring Specific Headings

Sometimes you might have a heading (like "Related Posts" or "Newsletter") that you don't want to appear in your Table of Contents.

The "Ignore" Class:

You can exclude any specific heading by adding the CSS class ignore to it. If a heading has this class, eToC will skip it during the collection phase.

Example for developers:

This heading will not show in TOC

🚪 Escaping Articles & Blogs

If you want to completely disable the Table of Contents on certain parts of your site, you can use the Escaped Articles and Escaped Blog settings.

1. Disable by Article ID

If you have a specific article where the TOC doesn't look right, find its Article ID (usually found in the URL when editing in Shopify Admin) and add it to the "Escaped Articles" list.

2. Disable by Blog/Category

If you want to disable the TOC for an entire category (e.g., all posts under /blogs/news), add the category handle to the Escaped Blog setting.

  • Tip: You can add multiple IDs or handles separated by commas (e.g., news, updates, promos).
